CONSISTORY MEETING MINUTES
January 10, 2012 7:15 PM

Pastor Steve Anthes opened the meeting with devotions from Numbers 14, followed by prayer.

OLD BUSINESS:
1. M/S/C Approve minutes of Consistory meeting of December 13, 2011. 
 
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Finalized ministry team assignments for all consistory members.
2. M/S/C To appoint the following members to the Youth Director search team:  LenVanden Hoek, Kim Lee, Carl Wynja, Jason Whiting, Ben Temple, Karen DeWitt, Ronn King

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
1.  M/S/C Appoint the following to update and propose changes to the By-Laws of First Reformed Church of SF:  Layne Drenth, Glen Zevenbergen, Jo Beal-Wick, Tim Klein and Jim Westra. 

NOMINATIONS COMMITTEE:  
1. M/S/C Appoint Maury Versteeg and Jay Headley to head up the nominations committee.

BUILDING DEBT REDUCTION
1.  Will continue the pledge drive.  Will be sending letters out to people who have not responded.

CONSENT AGENDA
1. M/SC to have a Super Bowl party at church on Feb. 5, 2012.
2. M/S/C to hold get acquainted gatherings throughout the year, first ones to take place February 2012.
3. M/S/C Marc & Tessa Van Dyk request to use the kitchenette for a meal following Maddox’s baptism on Sunday, January 22, 2012.
4. M/S/C Steve & Patti Kuck request to use the fellowship hall for a baby shower for Holly on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at 2:00 pm.
5. M/S/C Mike & Karen DeWitt request to use the multipurpose room for Collin’s graduation open house on Saturday, May 19, 2012, from 8:00am to 3:00pm.
6. M/S/C Darrel & Marlene Kooi request to serve cake between services on April 1, 2012, in honor of their 40th wedding anniversary.
7. M/S/C Seth request to use the multipurpose room on January 21 from 9:00am to 2:00pm for The Crossing and The Connection leadership retreat.
8. M/S/C request to ask members of the congregation to volunteer to be available to give rides to our elderly & shut-ins.  Put a notice in the bulletin for the members to contact the church office if they are interested.
9. M/S/C a request to hold an informational meeting, in the near future, with the congregation to discuss options about services for 2012.

DEACONS REPORT:
1.  M/S/C To approve the December 2011 Treasurer’s report, and to pay the mortgage on the new addition down to $490,000.
2. Information:  Deacons will be reviewing our current insurance policies, up-dates and new policies may need to be put in place.

    OTHER BUSINESS;
1. Recent Consistory approvals via e-mail:  12/29/11 approval for Cari Shields to rent the fellowship hall on February 10, 2012 from 3:00 to 11:00pm and February 11, from 9:00am to 5:00pm for a scrapbooking event.  A $75.00 fee for the entire event was agreed on.
Cari informed us that she has worked out other arrangements for her event and will not be using 1st Reformed.
2. M/S/C the following members of the After School Committee.  Deb Brenneman, Cindi & Tim Klien, Vicky Rowenhorst, Joel Bordewyk, Dave VanNieuwenhuyzen, Ed VanDyke, Nancy Westra, and Gene Wubben.
3. M/S/C To purchase a net to cover the north room in the new addition for up to $2,000.

Pastor Anthes opened the meeting with devotions from I Corinthians 12:12-13, unity, one spirit to drink, many parts form one body; followed by prayer.

OLD BUSINESS:
1. M/S/C Approve the minutes of Consistory meeting of November 8, 2011.

NEW BUSINESS:
1. Pastor Anthes welcomed the newly elected members and thanked those retiring.
2. M/S/C to approve the ordination and installation of new consistory members on January 8, 2012. Deacons at 1st service, elders at 2nd service.
3. The consistory roster with personal contact information was updated.
4. The 2012 Team Ministry chart was updated.
5. The consistory answered the 2011 Constitutional Questions as required by Dakota Classis.
6. M/S/F to approve the Youth Team as the new Search Committee for Youth Pastor.
7. M/S/C to place a notice in the church bulletin for the next two Sundays asking those interested in being part of the Search Committee for Youth Pastor/ Director of Youth Ministries to contact Len VandenHoek personally or via email by December 25th.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
1. M/S/C to grant voting rights to the newly elected consistory members for the purpose of election of officers for the 2012 term.
2. M/S/C to approve the election of Consistory Officers for 2012:

1. M/S/C to pull the 2nd item under Operations for further discussion(setup and tear down in the multipurpose room)
2. M/S/C to table the issue until Worship Team meets to discuss 2nd service worship site.
3. M/S/C to approve the following:
To approve the request by Jay and Rachelle Headley to use the kitchenette for their baptism family lunch on Sunday, January 15 at noon.
For the MS Youth to have an all-nighter at First Reformed on January 13, 2012.
To approve the date of the Youth Auction as April 21, 2012 in the multipurpose room.

2. M/S/C to approve the Christmas Eve offering be used for debt reduction.

2. Approved Lyle Kroon and the Norse Glee Club to have their Christmas party in the multipurpose room on December 12.
3. Approved the “Church Ladies Progressive Supper” to be held on December 10.
4. Approved the Christmas treat making at the church on December 17 at 9:00 a.m. Using all three kitchens.
5. Approved an all church New Year’s Eve party in the multipurpose room on December 31. Time to be set coordinating with the Kaschmitter party earlier in the day.
