Introducing Pastor Steve Anthes
Pastor Steve has roots in Northeast Iowa. After graduating from high school, he attended John Brown University where he received a Bachelors of Science degree in 1984. He moved to Sioux Falls in the fall of 1984 and enrolled in the North American Baptist Seminary. During the summer of 1985, he met Janet while they both served together at Village Creek Bible Camp in Lansing, Iowa. Janet went on tour with the Christian drama and musical group New Day the following year while Steve completed his second year at the Seminary. They were married on June 14, 1986 and joined the staff at First Reformed Church two weeks later. Steve was on staff as Pastor of Family Life, at First Reformed Church, while he completed his seminary training, receiving a Masters of Divinity on M ay 21, 1989. Both Michael and Brittany were born and baptized by Rev. Emmo Oltmanns while the family was here at this church. The family moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming in the fall of 1989 where Steve took the position of Family Life Minister and Youth at the First Baptist Church in Jackson Hole. Joel was born during this period of service. The American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountains ordained Steve on October 17, 1991. Steve served in Big Bend, Wisconsin and then returned to Jackson Hole as Senior Pastor. Steve was Vice Moderator for the Wyoming Association.
While in Wyoming, a church was planted in Victor, Idaho. The prospects of church planting took the family to northern Minnesota where Steve was interested in bi-vocational church planting. He served as Director of Day Treatment for Northlands Counseling Center one year. Due to budget cuts in the State of Minnesota, Steve then served as School Counselor for McGregor Public Schools the following year while a staff member was on leave. The Lord directed them back to Sioux Falls. He rejoined the staff at First Reformed Church in June of 2001. Shortly after joining the staff, God called the Rev. Wayne VanRegenmorter to serve in a denominational position in Florida. Both Wayne and Steve prayerfully examined the potential for new ministry here; this leads us to this day. The Dakota Classis of the Reformed Church of America affirmed Steve’s ordination in spring session of 2004.
